Mastadon, the open source community for the Twitter diaspora

A social change of heart—and platform

I recently joined the open source community on Mastodon called writing.exchange at the urging of my author partner, L. L. Madrid.

I’ve been off social for quite some time now, mainly for mental health reasons. So why the change of heart?

Although I joined Twitter in the late aughts and enjoyed the space at that time, it seemed that recently, whenever I poked my nose into the blue bird’s murky headwaters, I came up with a bad case of vertigo, a bit of nausea, a smelly disposition, and a sinking feeling that humanity was doomed.

Read above: leaving for my mental health.

So, when L.L. mentioned the island for misfits called Mastadon, I was wary. But I rolled up my sleeves and jumped ship with a heap of other Twitter refugees.

Our destination has proved companionable, a place to find new author friends (and their new books), wisecracks but less sarcasm, and beautiful photography.

It was, I thought as I settled into the new digs, as good a time as ever to come out.

So you can find me on Mastadon’s #writingcommunity as Lora Durance, and you can join in on the federated adventures of the Twitter diaspora.

Click the link above It’ll have you make an account, then jump to my profile. Tap the Follow button — say hi, and I’ll follow you back.

And so far it is a good time over here, so I do hope you’ll drop by for the fun. Bonus points if you follow L.L. Madrid, too 😘
